Teacher Enrichment Grants 2023-2024
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary Society of women educators. The Society’s Educational Excellence Committee (EEC) strives to develop programs that, among other things, promote educational excellence through programs and projects. Teacher enrichment grants are available to teachers in Bedford Area, Chestnut Ridge, Claysburg Kimmel, Everett Area, Northern Bedford, and Fulton County school districts. They are designed to fund a special project or program that a teacher would like to use in the classroom. In 2023-2024, community fund raising provided $2293.94 for this project which allowed the chapter to award three Teacher Enrichment Grants. Information on the recipients follows.
LAUREN ZEZANSKI
Lauren Zezanski, Chestnut Ridge School District. Her project includes the purchase of an iPad Pro for her “Storytelling through Movie Making Project,” the results of which will be featured at the district’s STEAM Fair.

MARY ELLEN LAIRD
Mary Ellen Laird, Northern Bedford County School District She will use her funds in the newly formed Drama Club for middle and high school students.

EVA BETH SICHKO
Eva Beth Sichko, Tussey Mountain School District. Her project is designed to bring learning to life in math classes through the use of a Cricuit Maker 3 and related design materials.

In 2022-2023, Community fund raising provided $2500 for this project which allowed the chapter to award four Teacher Enrichment Grants. Information on the recipients follows.
Tracey WilliamsTracey Williams, Tussey Mountain School District
Her project will focus on one element of art, form, to help students understand how to draw figures (her award will be used to purchase drawing mannequins). |
Kelly LazorKelly Lazor, Tussey Mountain School District
Her project will focus on enrichment programs for her 6th grade students (her award will be used to purchase “Breakout EDU” language arts lessons and archeology dig kits for social studies lessons). |
Ali Imler
Ali Imler, Bedford Area School District
Her project will focus on tile/glass mosaics (her award will be used to purchase materials needed to create a mosaic installation that will be permanently installed in the high school). |
Cortney Booher
Cortney Booher, Forbes Road School District
Her project will focus on creating hands-on learning opportunities for students to explore the connections between science, technology, engineering, and math (her award will be used to purchase STEM-related materials). |
Teacher Enrichment Grants 2020-2021
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary Society of women educators. The Society’s Educational Excellence Committee (EEC) strives to develop programs that, among other things, promote educational excellence through programs and projects. In 2021-2022, the Outreach Committee of the Alpha Beta Chapter’s EEC Committee added a project to offer financial support for outstanding educational projects in the school districts of our members. Community fund raising provided $1500 for this project which allowed the chapter to award three Teacher Enrichment Grants. Information on the recipients follows.
Meggie Shoemaker
Meggie Shoemaker, health and physical education teacher at the Bedford Area Middle School, received funds to purchase dumbbells for lifelong physical fitness. Her proposal said students will experience non-competitive physical activity as part of the physical education curriculum so they may be empowered to work out and go to a gym as an adult.

Danielle Simpson
Danielle Simpson, counselor at the Everett Area Middle School, will use her grant to form a Mindfulness Club for students to learn techniques to help them increase focus, decrease stress, increase self-awareness, and gain empathy for others, according to her proposal.

Meghan Brown
Meghan Brown, learning support teacher at the Chestnut Ridge High School, will use her funds to enhance the student-run bakery at the school. The students prepare and package bakery items sold to the staff in the faculty lounge. Her proposal said students use math skills and manage a bank account for the bakery. Profits are donated to the Humane Society.
